I have to confess. The tradwife dream nearly got me. Hearing the faint ding of a Teams notification while I’m trying to enjoy a work-from-home day has been enough for me to question what Emmeline Pankhurst really knew what she was fighting for.
But while I definitely dream of financial freedom and being able to do a pilates class on a random Tuesday, the curated illustration of the modern tradwife on social media has luckily never been enough for me to really consider my vocation to be a homemaker (yet). Let alone did I consider the economics behind it.
In this read, Serena Smith delves deep into the realities of our modern-day ‘tradwives’ and, with a cynical humour, questions what that life actually looks like in a modern context.
