Breadcrumbs – Simon Sarris

tl;dr/ the positive case for having a social media footprint

Read here.

I remember the day I made Instagram.

I was 14, at school with my friends one evening after classes had ended. Three of us – all peering over my phone to launch my first photo on the ‘gram’: a selfie in a shockingly pink glittered tank top, turned fiery orange by the ‘Kelvin’ Instagram filter I added with a sense of triumph (iykyk).

And yet, for the past decade, I always felt a crippling sense of anxiety about showcasing myself online in any real sense. Only under the hood of anonymity did I feel a bit more comfortable. (Which, upon reflection, I guess this website replicates lol. Except this time I actually posted on my Instagram story, and I’ve told my friends and family!)

My time online now is spent mostly trying to spend less time on it, use it more meaningfully, or at least show up authentically. If you’re anything like me and don’t want to quite get off social media just yet but want to use it more intentionally, this article is a great start. Showcase your interests, your work and, fundamentally, yourself online, no matter your digital pursuit.

Leave a trail of breadcrumbs and you will open up doors.
